Air India has asked its cabin crew to colour their grey hair in natural tones on a regular basis as part of norms that encompass travel even while on leave as part of the airline’s focus on grooming, which has sparked criticism.

Air India has asked its cabin crew to colour their grey hair

Grey hair is not acceptable. Regular natural colouring of grey hair is required. The instructions released following the airline’s grooming circular in October state that fashion colours and henna are not authorised.

Vehicles to Steel Conglomerate As part of its efforts to boost its market share to 30% on both domestic and international routes over the next five years, Tata Group, which acquired Air India in January, has sought to upgrade the airline’s ageing fleet and improve its service levels. About 10% of the domestic market is accounted for by Air India. It is predicted to hold a 12% share of the global market.

According to the rules, men are only permitted to wear rings that resemble wedding bands. Only wristbands that Sikhs wear as a statement of their faith and that are no wider than 0.5 cm and devoid of any designs, brands, or stones are permitted.

In case of poor hair growth, the airline has urged the male staff to shave their heads. They were not permitted to use the crew cut.

The restrictions are overly severe, according to an Air India official who talked on the record and on the condition of anonymity, and the crew does not like them. “…some think it is necessary for enhancing the airline’s reputation, but others think it goes a little too far.”

Women in the cabin staff are not permitted to wear pearl jewellery and are only permitted to wear simple round diamond and gold studs.

“While travelling as staff on duty, cabin crew who are scheduled to fly as passengers, are regarded to be travelling on duty and must be officially clothed as per office duty rules, when being positioned for flight/returning to base on conclusion of flight duty/training purpose.”

According to the rules, cabin crew members who are on leave and are travelling on Air India aircraft must be dressed decently and in smart casual wear.

“Flimsy slippers are not authorised. Please refrain from wearing damaged jeans, sleeveless tops, crop tops, hot trousers, or short skirts.” Before receiving their boarding permit, the crew may be required to change if they are dressed improperly.

According to the rules, sarees must be worn at the natural waist with no more than an inch of the midriff showing. Only formal court shoes and stockings of the same skin tone were permitted to be worn with sarees.

The staff is expected to coordinate the colours of their lipstick and nail polish. Female crew members only apply naked nail paint that matches their skin tone if their nails are completely missing the nail bed.

Beards and the green shadow on the chin are prohibited, according to the rules for men. “On every aircraft, male crew members must have a shaving kit.” According to the rules, employees in uniform are not permitted to wear sunglasses in airports or on aeroplanes. The crew members are not allowed to talk about political, religious, or business-related topics on social media.
