Airbus has reportedly begun testing the GTF Advantage engine on an A320neo aircraft, according to Pratt & Whitney.

Pratt & Whitney stated in a statement made on October 4, 2022 that the flight test campaign will test the engine’s performance in a variety of situations, including hot and cold weather and operation from high-altitude airports.
The firm claimed that the flight test campaign was an expansion of Pratt & Whitney and Airbus’ continuous product development.
The manufacturer noted that engine certification is anticipated to last through the first half of 2023.
About 2,400 hours and 7,800 cycles of testing have already been completed on the engine, including a successful test using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
Before receiving the required clearances, the engine must also fly test flights on the producer’s flying test bed, which is located in Mirabel, Canada, according to Pratt & Whitney. Extensive endurance testing will be a part of the procedure “to ensure product maturity at introduction into service.”
Pratt & Whitney GFT Advantage engine
According to Pratt & Whitney, the GTF Advantage engine is designed to reduce carbon emissions and jet fuel consumption by up to 1% when compared to the GTF engine’s existing model.
“The engine might offer longer range and heavier payload, making it particularly ideal for A321XLR aircraft and opening up more destinations for airlines. It is capable of a takeoff thrust improvement of 4% at sea level. At higher altitudes, the engine will also provide a boost in takeoff thrust of up to 8%. To ensure the greatest operating freedom, GTF Advantage will be interchangeable and indestructible with the present GTF engine.”
according to the manufacturer’s statement

Pratt & Whitney added that GTF-powered aircraft cut noise footprint by up to 75%, NOx emissions by up to 50%, and fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 16% to 20%.
The improved engine is anticipated to assist the sector in achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
