Akasa Air’s reach within India continues to expand, with the airline starting flights from the 11th city in its network – Lucknow in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The budget carrier has expanded significantly in just over 4 months, with a market share fast approaching 2%. With the addition of Lucknow as the newest destination to its network, Akasa Air is marching ahead with its commitment to linking metros to Tier two and three cities.

On December 25th, Akasa Air operated its 1st flight service from Lucknow – the 11th city in its network, and the 1st in Uttar Pradesh (UP). The airline will offer daily direct service flights on the Lucknow-Bengaluru and Lucknow-Mumbai routes to cater to the rising demand for travel from the city.

The occasion was felicitated by the Chief Minister of UP, Shri Yogi Adityanath, who stated, “Witnessing India’s newest airline, Akasa Air, starting operations in Uttar Pradesh early in their journey, reaffirms my faith in the potential of the state in generating employment and ensuring economic prosperity for our country.”

Vinay Dube, CEO of Akasa Air told,

“The Akasa Air story is aligned with the nation’s journey towards making air travel affordable through Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji’s clarion call – Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik. This announcement is another extension of our efforts to increase the country’s economy by strengthening its important transportation linkages.”

Akasa will operate flights to and from Lucknow according to the following schedule:

Recently Akasa Air also declared Goa as the 12th destination on its network, with 3 daily direct flights scheduled on the Goa and Bengaluru route and 2 on the Goa – Mumbai route in next year January 2023. The newly inaugurated Manohar International Airport (Mopa) will facilitate the airline’s operations in the state.

The airline has been quite busy since beginning operations in August 2022, rising both its network as well as fleet size. By of December 2022, Akasa Air expects to cross more than 500 weekly flights across its network.

Its fleet expansion plan accounts for one new aircraft every 15 days, as part of which it recently welcomed its 10th aircraft. Akasa Air’s fleet size will be 18 aircraft next year in March 2023, and over the next 4 years, the airline will add 54 additional aircraft, taking its total fleet size to 72 aircraft.

Earlier this month, Akasa Air also informed plans to start international flying in the 2nd half of 2023. Its 20th aircraft will be delivered by April of the next year 2023, following which it will have to wait a while for the 21st aircraft.

It is hoping to start flying overseas routes towards the end of the next year 2023.
