The Chandigarh International Airport has been renamed Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, per a statement from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA).

On September 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the airport in Chandigarh would be renamed in honour of the liberation warrior Bhagat Singh.
On September 28, they commemorated the independence fighter’s 115th birthday. The Chandigarh airport’s renaming to Bhagat Singh was announced on the same day.
“It is notified that the Chandigarh International Airport in Chandigarh is named as “Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Chandigarh with immediate effect.”
The MoCA stated in a statement November 2
Airport renaming and naming a meticulous process, and the Union Cabinet must give its final permission.
In most cases, airports are identified by the name of the city in which they are found. In some instances, a particular name is suggested by the state government in question, endorsed by a resolution approved by the relevant state legislative assembly.
Following that, the same is forwarded to the Union Cabinet for final approval.
The country’s civil aviation industry has a strong growth potential, thus the government wants to have 220 airports overall by 2030.

“A significant choice has been made as a tribute to Bhagat Singh just before his birthday. The Chandigarh airport will now bear Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s name, as has been determined. Long time had passed while it was waiting.”
