The Belagavi airport is set to become a hub for aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) soon which will directly aid to bring business.
Belagavi Airport
Airports Authority of India (AAI) has recently awarded land area at Belagavi Airport for Hangar and Apron facility to the Delhi-based private firm Aviation Connectivity and Infrastructure Developers Private Limited.

This Maintenance hanger caters to aircraft type Embraer 145-commercial airline, private aircraft, and hired flights like Legacy650, Falcon7x, Challenger 605, etc.
This dedicated maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) hangar are to be created with a state-of-the-art facility. This facility benefits the aircraft operators and supports Belagavi airport to achieve its environmental sustainability goals and positive development.
Belagavi Airport is the 3rd busiest airport in Karnataka with daily flights to 10 Indian cities.
What are maintenance, repair, and overhaul?
Any industry that uses machinery to perform operations needs maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services. The term “maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) aviation” in the aviation industry refers to all the operations intended to keep aircraft prepared to fly at all times.
There are various types of maintenance, repair, and overhaul(MRO) aviation facilities on-site at airports all over the world. Usually, the airframe or engines of the aircraft are the focus of maintenance operations.
However, component maintenance, repair, and overhaul(MRO) are now included in MRO aviation activities. There are MRO services that must be given at airports and occasionally at specially designated off-airport facilities, depending on the type of service needed.

- For instance, when the plane is parked at the airport, tasks like routine in-service inspections, everyday check actions, or frequent troubleshooting can be achieved.
However, if avionics, radios, or other removable components require maintenance, they can be taken off the aircraft and transferred somewhere else for the necessary maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services. There are 3 preliminary categories of MRO operations:
Maintenance:
- When work is done to keep an aircraft in top shape, it is called maintenance. Although no issues or malfunctions are noticed, the aircraft is serviced to keep it in operational fitness.
Repair:
Because aircraft are complex machines with multiple moving components and linked software, they frequently require repairs. Repairs are made if an instrument panel doesn’t function correctly, there is a dent, an engine issue, or a damaged window.
Overhaul:
After a certain amount of period in aviation operations, the majority of aircraft require overhaul because of their high rate of wear and tear. Aircraft are disassembled piece by piece, with each component examined, before being put back together as part of the overhaul process.
The overhaul procedure enables a thorough examination of all the aircraft’s external and internal components, and it is a crucial step in the management and progress of the plane’s lifecycle.
