India’s “largest ever” defence show, DefExpo 2022, started on Tuesday in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, with the goal of boosting the defence industry.
The event, with the theme “Path to Pride,” is currently in its 12th year.
The Ministry of Defense reports that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the inauguration on October 19.

Rajnath Singh, the defence minister, said that one of the main forces behind the country’s determination to achieve “Make in India, Make for the World” is the growing prowess of the domestic defence industry. He was speaking at the DefExpo 2022 curtain-raiser press conference in Gandhinagar on Monday.
In order to achieve the overall goal of meeting domestic requirements while also meeting the needs of friendly foreign countries, Singh said that the biennial exhibition had been organised to support, showcase, and create partnerships for the Indian aerospace and defence manufacturing sectors with both Indian and international customers.
The solely Indian-company-focused DefExpo 2022 was described by the defence minister as a “pillar of the Swadeshi movement” and a “humble tribute” to Mahatma Gandhi.
Under the dynamic leadership of our PM Modi, the defence sector has made enormous strides on the ‘Path to Pride‘ with passion and dedication to achieve the goal of ‘Aatmanirbharta‘ in defence. We are moving towards becoming pioneers in design, development, and manufacturing at a global level. We are witnessing a transformational period. The defence minister referred to “Path to Pride” as a “Make in India, Make for the World” vision of a “New India,” rather than just DefExpo 2022’s theme.
The first-ever DefExpo in 2022 would only feature Indian businesses. Participants from India include Indian enterprises, Indian subsidiaries of foreign OEMs, a division of an Indian corporation, and an exhibitor that has a joint venture with an Indian company. The seven new defence businesses, which were formed from the former Ordnance Factory Board, will also celebrate one year of existence during the DefExpo 2022.
These businesses will all be taking part in DefExpo for the first time. Nearly twice as many MoUs, agreements for the transfer of technology, and product launches as in the last iteration are anticipated during the Bandhan ceremony on October 20.
The Department of Defence Production’s flagship pavilion, the India Pavilion, will highlight India’s vision for 2047 while showcasing the development of domestic defence products, start-ups, and cutting-edge technology, including artificial intelligence in defence. Additionally, an exclusive Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) Pavilion will be present to highlight the expertise of the nation’s start-ups engaged in R & D and innovation in cutting-edge technology.

States and Union Territories (UTs) have been given the opportunity to erect pavilions at the event for the first time. The defence minister emphasised that under this new programme, States/UTs will have a chance to contribute to nation-building by luring investment and enhancing their capacity for domestic aerospace and defence manufacture.
